When welding using tungsten inert gas, the welding arc forms between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a base material. Argon, as the most commonly used shielding gas, is fed through the TIG torch to shield the electrode and molten welding pool. The current is then either an alternating or direct current that can be pulsed when necessary.
